Day 10: Helado

I very recently attended the wake of a friend's father who'd passed away in the last week. Upon driving home, my brother received an urgent phone call from my mother. The following message was transmitted:

"Don't come home. It's bad luck to come straight home after a wake or funeral. Go take a walk or get some ice cream."

I'm almost a bit ashamed to say we decided to do the latter instead of the former. Almost. But who doesn't love sundaes? Except those allergic to dairy.... That aside, we rushed over to Mickey D's in order to make use of the Dollar Menu.

The sweet treat definitely didn't look anything like this:

But it was tasty nonetheless.

Day 9: Pastime

Apple pie and baseball.

Two great "American pastimes."

Speaking of American pastimes, Adam Smith once said in The Wealth of Nations that the poorer members of society would pursue jobs which other wealthier members of society would pursue as pastimes (hunting, fishing, etc.). Truth in that today?

This happy post is disorganized and not thought out. Apologies. But you should do some pastiming tomorrow.

Day 8: 72 Year Old Case Study

This article will help you out no matter who you are. That is, unless you're unnaturally happy in an unearthly way.

Take a gander.

Day 7: Loverly + Glove

= Gloverly!

gloves, gloves, gloves.

Marching bands? Keep those instruments nice and shiny. Uniformity.

Winter? Keep those hands alive and well. No frostbite for you.

Prom? Not my style. But I do enjoy the super long satiny gloves.

Other? You tell me.

Day 6: On the road again

I've not met one person with a GPS who hasn't complained about the monotone, robotic voice. I beg of you, please just turn it off.

Grab that road atlas next time you head out on a great American roadtrip. Or any other trip for that matter.

Or just flip through the pages. I learned where the most random cities were today from 10 minutes in the backseat of a minivan with a "Rand McNally Atlas." I had a refresher on how the East coast is laid out (man, I needed that badly). I discovered the ever-coveted solution to the most evasive question in the world, "Where's Waldo?"

Wisconsin, by the way.

STOP...

HAMMERTIME.

Dancing aside, I'll be out of town for the next 4 days without access to internet.

I shall be spreading positive energy of course. :)

Catch ya on the flipside.

Day 5: Big People

No, not unhealthy people who are large. Adult-types. But the good guy kind. Those special few that you look up to, admire, and hope to be like someday.

Parents, aunts and uncles, teachers, guardians of all sorts.

Or maybe that man sitting on the park bench.

Guidance.

It's so strange to think that if you're not in that position already, you will be someday. Every single grown-up today has a limit on life, and we fill their spots. How does something that complex happen so naturally? Not so long ago you were playing dress up. Take another look in the mirror and now the fantasy isn't far off.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Day 4: Preguntas?

"To be or not to be?
That is the question."

Questions = good day. They're a wonderful thing, questions are. Are they not? For without questions, would anything ever be known, accomplished, or overthrown? Let alone the unknown would remain in its current state. Without something as simple as a question, orders would be strewn about everywhere.

And no one likes to be told what to do.

"Be!"

or

"Just don't be!"

So I hereby leave with this message for questions: You have my gratitude. Please accept?

Day 3: Aglets

Ever try to lace your shoes without aglets? (It's a pain.) Even know what an aglet is? Here's a hint. In many a biology class, aglets are often used as a simile to describe telomeres on chromosomes.

WARNING:

SPOILER

AHEAD

Aglet
-noun
-Def. a metal tag or sheath at the end of a lace used for tying, as of a shoelace.

Those sneaky little guys on the ends of your laces deserve their day in the sun.

And that day is today.

What can I say?
Aglets make me happy.

Day 2: Late Night Chats

It must be proven somewhere that the nighttime is directly proportional with the openness of human beings. I'd make a chart but I'm feeling lazy. Anyways, back to the frolic topic. Maybe we should allow ourselves more sleepless nights spent cramming for tests, searching for summer jobs, or, get this, actually talking with another person. Isn't that what life is about? Building relationships and growing. And that's something that never has to stop. Ever. Unless you want it to stop that is. But why would you ever? We hardly have 100 years to be here. I still haven't accepted the fact that I'm not invincible. The world still has so many wonders and I feel like I'll have an endless amount of time to explore until my heart's content. I digress.

Late night chats make me happy because people trust you more as their need for sleep grows. Once that door of communication is open, you feel more like yourself than you have in ages.

Day 1: Welcoming you with MIKA

There's nothing better than starting off strong with MIKA. He's such a flamboyantly great guy with an array of amazing songs. This video is the first thing that came to mind when I thought of the word, "happy." Let's be honest. Super awesome vocals and instrumentation, incredibly whimsical props, dancing as freely and as uninhibited as you did in kindergarten. There's no question - MIKA unquestionably makes me want to get up and frolic right now.

Check out his album, "Life in Cartoon Motion," if you want a CD where every single track is worth listening to.

The most recent news on MIKA: "Songs of Sorrow" was just released. Wonderful acoustic stuff. Listen to it on his homepage. His next full album release date is in September. Hooray! Read more here if you so wish.
